The towns of Holyoke and Haxtun are your jumping-off points for exploring the rural charm of Phillips County.
Downtown Holyoke has preserved much of its rich cultural heritage. The Phillips County Historical Society Museum has engaging exhibits (be sure the check out Miss Nancy Belle, the famous Ford Model A), the Peerless Theatre offers movies and more in a venue harking back to the golden age of cinema, and the historic Burge Hotel, which opened in 1887, gives travelers comfortable rooms with a unique sense of place. Homegrown restaurants Happy Jack’s Barbeque, the Skillet and Heidi’s keep locals and travelers well fed.
Phillips County is a multi-season destination. Events include the Phillips County Art Show in April, the Dandelion Daze car show in June, the Phillips County Fair in July and the Holyoke Country Christmas in December. Racing fans flock to the Phillips County Raceway, where speedsters compete on an exciting dirt track. The Ballyneal Golf and Hunt Club is a major attraction, with a golf course consistently rated one of the top 100 in the world and a remarkable acreage in the Chop Hills for pheasant hunting.
